Serpent dominates first South African National

After a tough 2006 season, Team Serpent South Africa drivers bounced back in style to dominate the first round of the South African Championships for 2007.  Racing at the tight East London track, the team took the TQ spot in all three classes and went on to win each of the A Main Finals to make it a clean sweep for Serpent and Mega.

Normally one of the smaller events on the National calendar, this years event at the coastal city saw a record 70 cars entered for first round of the 4 leg Championship.

Mike Wiseman continued his unbeaten run with the 720 in the Nationals when he took the A Main by a massive 4 lap margin. With five Serpents in the A Main, the rivalry with the Mugen drivers continued but the pace and stability of the 720 had the edge on the competition.
Mike White took his first TQ and A Mains win in the 235mm class to get his season off to the perfect start while the Premier Class was a tight tussle between Wayne Joelson and Mike Wiseman, with Mike controlling the heats to take the TQ by 2,5 seconds and then repeating the results with his 960 in the A Main to win by 5 seconds.

A great drive by Terry Elkington saw him secure his first podium spot at National level with his Mega powered 960.

The next round of the South African National Championship takes place at Pretoria in early April.ssa01.jpg
