Team Serpent Ireland drivers Darragh Fox and Dean Lacey gave Serpent the perfect start to its title defence during the opening round of the Irish National Championships in Dublin over the weekend when the young pairing finished 1 and 2 in the event.
Defending Champion Clive Connolly used his 960 to TQ for the event recording his fastest time in the fourth and final heat. Â Unfortunately he was unable to convert his qualifying result into a win when the race was hit by heavy rain shortly after the start forcing him to retire. Â Similar faith hit young charger Sean Doyle who was debuting his 960FD, the wet conditions causing his radio gear to fail.
Leading until the 26th minute of the 30 minute encounter, Lacey was also to suffer radio problems in the wet conditions handing Fox the lead where he would stay to take the win from Lacey to give the team a 1-2 result.
The team have 6 weeks to dry out their cars in preparation for Round 2 of the National Championship which is scheduled for April 22.
