After a great first National encounter, the Mega powered Serpent drivers picked up where they left off as they went to the second round of the South African Championships at the big, fast track in Pretoria.
Pretoria is a tricky track with a long straight, which starts and finishes with big sweepers, but the infield is very tight, and the high altitude means a drop off in horsepower.
The 1:8th Class was a tight tussle between Hein Kotze, Wayne Joelson and Mike Wiseman, with Mike eventually taking the TQ by almost two seconds in the final round.
In the Final, Mike drove his Mega DSII powered 960 to a clear 2 lap victory. The race was on behind him for 2nd place, with Wayne Joelson taking the second spot from a hard charging Faizel Salie.
In 1:10 Wiseman also claimed the TQ position with the 720 but in the final a stripped gear put him out while leading. Â Young Travis Carlyle drove his Mega powered Serpent into 2nd position in the final, just 10 seconds behind the winner, Wayne Joelson. This was a great drive by the youngster who is pressing for a top three slot in the Championships.
Former 235mm S.A. Champ Arnold Vermaak (Serpent 835) took the TQ and A Mains win in the 235mm class with a really strong performance.
Next round of the National series is Durban at the end of June.
