ROOSTER CRAWLER EDITION
Irvine, CA â€“ June 18, 2007 â€“ Attention crawler enthusiasts â€” great news! One of Novakâ€™s most popular brushed ESCs, the Rooster, is now available in a Crawler edition. Because crawler vehicles require such precise movement control at low speeds, it only makes sense to use equipment specifically designed for this purpose. Novak is one of the few, if not the only R/C manufacturer, who offers a speed control specifically designed for crawlers. So if crawling is what you like to do, youâ€™ll want to take a good look at Novakâ€™s Rooster Crawler-Edition.
Besides a different case label, the Rooster Crawler looks the same as the Rooster 12T. Same small footprint, same heat sink assembly, and same 14-gauge power wires on PCB-direct solder tabs for easy soldering. Inside the orange case, however, is where crawler-specific software transforms the Rooster into a Crawler. The special software enables crawler applications to scale, navigate, and conquer the most challenging terrain.
The Rooster Crawler is equipped with an improved 6 volt/ 5 amp BEC thatâ€™s perfect for super high-torque servos in crawling conditions. Its Zero Reverse Delay allows instant power delivery in both forward and reverse when needed. High-power Drag Brakes provide monster holding power thatâ€™s especially useful when embarking on a downhill descent. And yes, the Rooster Crawler edition includes the newest must-have feature: built-in Li-Po cut-off protection. This feature monitors the vehicleâ€™s Lithium Polymer battery packâ€™s voltage, and prevents the batteries from going below the critical safety voltage level. The driver is cued via throttle blips when the voltage drops to a certain level. After 20 blips it then shuts off, however, full control of the steering servo is left intact. The Li-Po cut-off protection feature can be enabled or disabled via the ESCâ€™s two throttle profiles.
Other Rooster Crawler features include a water-resistant case, a user-replaceable input harness, and auxiliary fan connectors. Of course, all the standard features for which Novak is known are also included: One-Touch Set-Upâ„¢, Radio-Priority Circuitryâ„¢, Polar Drive Circuitryâ„¢, and Thermal Overload Protection.

Novak is happy to fill the need with a new Crawler Sintered Brushless Motor (#3419) and Crawler Sintered Brushless System (#3019). Novak has always felt that brushless technology is an ideal fit for crawling applications due to their instant throttle response, super low-speed drivability, and explosive torque â€” the very features crawling enthusiasts look for.
As any crawler aficionado can tell you, crawler vehicles require precise movement control at very low speeds. That being said, it makes sense to use equipment specifically designed for this purpose. Enter Novak Electronics. One of the few, if not the only R/C manufacturer, who offer electronic products specifically designed for crawlers. The new sensor-based Crawler Brushless Motor and System are equipped with features that enable crawlers to climb over, maneuver through, and conquer the most challenging terrain.
While the new Crawler Brushless Motor (#3419) and Crawler Brushless System look similar to the original #3418 Crawler Brushless Motor and #3018 Crawler Brushless System, there are several differences that greatly improve the performance.
The new Crawler Brushless ESC is now based on Novakâ€™s XBR Sport ESC, which has been outfitted with crawler-specific software. It is equipped with an improved 6 volt/ 5 amp BEC thatâ€™s perfect for super high-torque servos in crawling conditions. Its Zero Reverse Delay allows instant power delivery in both forward and reverse when needed. Adjustable, high-power Drag Brakes, also known as â€œholdâ€ or â€œhillâ€ brakes, provide monster holding power thatâ€™s especially useful when embarking on a downhill descent. The Crawler ESC also has two throttle profiles: one with standard motor rotation, another with reverse motor rotation. In either profile, users can enable or disable built-in Li-Po cut-off protection, which monitors the vehicleâ€™s Lithium Polymer battery packâ€™s voltage, and prevents the batteries from going below the critical safety voltage level.
The new Crawler Brushless Motor now includes the same high-performance sintered rotor that Novakâ€™s Velociti-series motors currently use. The rotor is ideal for use with any and all applications, and provides the following benefits:

It still sports ribbed aluminum end bells, and the same popular solder tab system that is used in Novakâ€™s Velociti-series motors. The lower-resistance solder tabs allow for more flexible soldering options, and are extremely efficient and easy to use. The solder tabs provide the lowest possible voltage drop, and allow for easy and convenient power wire replacement.
Along with the new Crawler Brushless ESC, which when used with will have optimum crawling performance, the Crawler Brushless Motor is also compatible with all Novak brushless ESCs, including the GTB-series (#1710, #1711, #1714, #1715), the XBR (#1720), and the Super Sport Plus (#1705) and original Super Sport ESC. The Crawler motor with any of these ESCs are an ideal setup for beginning drivers that are looking for slower speed and longer run times.
The Crawler Brushless System (#3019) includes one sensor-based, 18.5-turn Crawler Brushless Motor factory-wired to a new XBR-based Crawler Brushless ESC. The list price for the Crawler System is $339. The Crawler Motor will also be available individually as part #3419, and list price of $139.
