This year marked the 10th Annual running of the Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout in Saugus, California. The race was held July 20-22 with scorching temperatures in the high 90’s all weekend long.

The HRH Shootout is the last big off-road race before the highly anticipated IFMAR off-road electric world championships in Japan, September 9-17. This brought teams from around the world to get some last minute practice and testing.

Fresh off his dominating performance at the ROAR Nats, Team Orion Factory Driver Ryan Cavalieri was ready to race against this star studded field.

The race format went as follows: Friday had 2 rounds of qualifying. Saturday the heats were resorted by the drivers fastest time with 2 more rounds of qualifying. On Sunday only the mains would be ran with the drivers two best qualifying round point totals combined to determine the starting grid.

At the end of qualifying, it was Cavalieri who was sitting on the pole position in all 3 modified classes with his Team Orion powered rides.

Ryan went on to win the first two A mains in the modified truck class to give him his first title of the weekend.

Both the 4wd and 2wd modified classes would come down to the 3rd A main.

In the 4wd Modified A3 Main, Ryan pulled away from the field at the start and never looked back winning by a considerable margin. This giving Ryan his second championship of the weekend!

The last title up for grabs was in the 2wd Modified class. Ryan drove a very smart race in A main 3 finishing 2nd in the race giving him the overall win and his 3rd championship of the weekend. This making it a clean sweep by TQ & Winning all 3 Modified Classes.

Cavalieri also participated in the HRH Shootout Pro/Am Competition. This paired up 10 pro drivers with 10 rookie drivers. Each rookie driver picked a name out of a hat and was partnered up with that pro driver for the weekend. The point of this competition was to have the pro drivers help the rookie drivers with car set-ups and any questions they had throughout the event to help them do better. Points were awarded by the qualifying and finishing order of the pro driver in the 2wd modified class and the rookie class. With Cavalieri TQ and Winning 2wd modified and his partner rookie driver Chad Nix TQ and taking second gave them the overall win! The prize was $200.00 cash that went to the pro driver for his efforts. Ryan then went on to split the cash prize with his partner displaying great sportsmanship!

Also, congrats to Team Orion Factory Driver Ronnie Gardner for an impressive 2nd place finish in the expert gas truck class. Ronnie used the Wasp REV CRF .12 Engine to power his way towards the front. With great gas mileage, Ronnie was able to go 11 ½ minutes before pitting!
