Swedish Serpent team driver Per Ola Hard has sent us a short report from the second round of the Swedish National Championship where the team enjoyed podium success in both 1:10 and 1:8. Here is Peo’s view of things -
The second Swedish nationals was held at Vaxjo in the south of Sweden on May 17/18th with most of the fast guys present in both 1:10 and 1:8. Luckily we got a very nice race in dry conditions while other parts of Sweden got heavy rain and even 20cm of snow!

Last weekend we had the 3rd National round of the 200mm IC touring championship, held at the fabulous Mendip race track. 52 drivers booked in for the race, fortunately the weather was kind to us, it stayed dry and sunny all weekend.
After 4 hard fought qualifying rounds in strangely low grip conditions we had 4 XRAY NT1’s in the main A final.
Mark Gilliland XRAY NT1 5th on 18/ 14.45
Robin Hammett XRAY NT1 6th on 18/ 14.98
Darren Johnson XRAY NT1 7th on 18/ 16.28
Gareth Bell XRAY NT1 9th on 18/ 301.41
With the FTD time set a 18/10.30 the times were incredibly close with one small mistake losing you several positions.

Over the weekend SDD driver and defending Belgian National Champion Robin D’Hondt was back in action in Round 2 of the Championship held in Luxemburg. The 2008 Round 1 winner sent us this report from race -
The second round of the Belgian Championship was held at the very nice track of Luxemburg. Nice layout, technical and good grip. Weather could be a little better (sometimes rain) but I had 2 dry qualifiers and a dry final so I had a pretty good weekend.

Serpent Driver Development programme member Kyle Branson broke into the big time over the weekend when he took his first ever British National Championship win. Racing in the third round of the 1:10 200mm championship at Mendip the 14-year-old ace took his Serpent 720 to a 2-lap winning margin.
While the practice day was overcast, Sunday’s race day was greeted with clear skies and Kyle was there early to prepare for the day ahead. In the first round of qualifying Kyle’s car was ok but the track wasn’t so good and he also clipped a kerb which meant he could only post the 3rd fastest time.

Kyosho/AKA driver Cody King swept both expert buggy and truggy classes at the Tri-State Off-Road Championship. Hosted by Radical Racers in El Paso, TX, the race is fundraising event to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Inspired by local racer Corbyn Showers, who is affected by MD, Father/mechanic Paul King and Cody traveled to Texas to support Corbyn and the event after meeting him at the Nitro Challenge in Arizona. Kyosho also donated an ST-RR kit as a raffle prize to generate additional contributions. Cody King and his Mother helped to sell raffle tickets to generate as much revenue as possible, raising a total of $1050 from just the ST-RR kit.
In his first outing with the AKA tires, wheels and unique inserts, King fought a hard battle with Ryan Maifield in the buggy class, but ended up unchallenged at the end when Maifield retired due to mechanical troubles. King TQ’d and also won the truggy class driving a Sirio-powered ST-RR in front of three other ST-RR trucks.
Congratulations and thanks to Cody King and family for such an awesome performance, and for their enthusiastic support of such a worthwhile charity.
