Race report by Michal Bok

Round 2 of the Czech Republic Championship for 1/8 off-road and truggy was held on the weekend of May 17 & 18 at track of club 1.PTS Táborník near Mlada Boleslav. The track was very technical and flat until Saturday’s final. Free practice was on Friday for 3 hours. During the free practice there was a strong rainshower but it lasted only a little while. During my free practice (and also Martin Pater’s) our XRAY XB808 cars handled great. There were 66 drivers at the start of the race on Saturday, and during qualification the cars ran fast and hard.

With more than 300 entries, the Hank Perry 240 is one of the most popular races in the North West, attracting top factory talent from many of the major manufacturers. Kyosho driver Taylor Peterson dominated the event, qualifying first in the Pro Buggy class with an Orion-powered Kyosho Inferno 777, and second in the Pro Truggy class with Kyosho Inferno ST-RR; also running the new Orion .21 engine.

Petersen battled closely with a couple of the front runners early in the buggy main, trading the lead during pit stops. Petersen finally took the lead for the last time on lap 35 and held it to the end of the 74 lap, 30-minute A-main. It’s worth noting that Petersen was leading for 62 of the 74 laps and he finished a lap up on second place.

The truggy main also started with some close racing with the early leaders, but it took a challenging turn when an poorly-placed hand by Petersen’s mechanic during the first fuel stop caused the engine to stall, knocking him back to fifth place and a full lap down. Petersen put his head down and charged as hard as possible to get back on the lead lap, and then passed the frontrunners again on lap 70 to take the race lead. Petersen pulled out more than a five second lead over the last five laps to seal the win in the Pro Truggy class. Petersen also took top honors in the 1/10 truck class. Petersen runs Werks fuel and KO Propo radio systems in all of his racing rigs.

Team Serpent USA driver Randy Caster took part in one America best known events the Reedy Race where he was in action at the controls of the S400. Here is his account of the big race -

We arrived at the 08 Reedy Race on Thursday and got our pits set up. I got my car all together and ready to go, but when I went out for my first round of practice, my car had no steering. Somehow the circuit board on my servo had gone bad and the servo was dead causing me to miss my first run. I put a new servo in and got on the track for the second round of practice, got a full run in, but the car was very loose. I put more rear toe into the car and completed rounds 3-8 of practice finishing in the top 3 fastest runs in each of those rounds, and set the fastest time in practice in the last round which gave me tons of confidence going into the next day which would begin the qualifiers.
