Wubben reports on Dutch EP National Round 4

After winning the last national about a month ago, I had good hopes for this race. After 2 years we where back at one of my favorite Dutch tracks, RC Hotwheels in Deventer.
Practice started really good for me, I didn’t practice on this track like others but when I put my S400 on the track it was really good. I had some push on power in the fast corners but besides from that it handled really well.

Race Day:
The day started of with damp conditions but by the time the mod class started the track was almost dry. I had a decent run and ended up on the TQ spot followed by my team mate Rob Jansen and Xray driver Hugo van der Berg in third.
The second qualifier was the rocket round, the track was dry and it was time to put on new tires and aim for the TQ. I had a bad opening few laps on my new tires, the car was so much different from what I had before and it took me 3 laps to get used to the car. But by now Rob was in the lead and was right on my bumper. I let him by but after 4 more laps I had the feeling my car was working again.. But now Rob was in front of me and I couldn’t pass him. After a few laps Rob let me by and I could pull away just a little. But it was not enough to make up for the bad laps in the beginning and I ended up in 3rd. So it was Serpent’s Rob Jansen, followed very closely by Hugo and me.
The last qualifier saw no changes up front, as everybody failed to improve their time on old tires.
Finals:
A Main 1
I started from 3rd on the grid and knew I had to make a good start to have a shot for the win. On the sound of the tone I made a perfect start and passed second place. At the end of the straight I passed Rob and was now in the lead. For 16 laps Rob chased me hard and when I took a corner a little to wide he passed me on the inside. I tried to fight back but I had to much understeer in the fast corners to make a pass.
1.Rob Jansen (Serpent S400)
2.Bart Wubben (Serpent S400)
3.Wesley van Dijken
A Main 2
Again I made a really good start and after 3 corners I was already in the lead. Rob was now in second and was right on my tail. His car looked really good and I had to drive super tight lines so he couldn’t pass me. After 4 minutes I hit a curbstone and went a little wide, Rob immediately took advantage of my mistake and took the lead. With a few laps to go I tried to place a move but Rob’s car was super fast. Rob took a well deserved win.
1.Rob Jansen (Serpent s400)
2.Bart Wubben (Serpent S400)
3.Hugo van der Berg
Overall Result:
1.Rob Janssen (Serpent S400)
2.Bart Wubben (Serpent S400)
3.Hugo van den Berg
4.John Bruins ( Serpent )
5.Wesley van Dijken
6.Sven van Essen
7.Luke van Essen
8.Patrick Jongenelis
9.Peter Meurs

So overall it was a nice weekend and it was good to be back on the RC Hotwheels track. I had nice battles in the finals and Rob showed how fast he really is.
Best regards,
Bart Wubben
