This past weekend concluded the 2008 Jimmy Babcock Racing League (JBRL) series. Starting back in March, this years JBRL series hit 8 of Southern California’s top tracks with on race held each month. Five rounds out of eight were used to determine the overall series champion for each class.
Team Orion Factory Driver Frank Root was one of only a few drivers that made it to every series race. Frank raced the highly competitive 2wd and 4wd Modified classes.
Going into the last round at Hot Rod Hobbies, Frank already had the 4wd Modified class locked and just needed another good finish to wrap up the 2wd Modified championship. Root did just that finishing a strong 2nd behind Team Orion teammate Ryan Cavalieri giving him the overall series win.

The race started on Monday with one timed practice in the heats. The practice was supposed to also continue also on Tuesday, however, the heavy rain during whole day Tuesday eliminated practice for all but a few racers. Some of the top drivers drove some laps just in the harsh conditions just in order to get good qualifying heat as the practice times were to be used to set the qualifying order.

He is only racing two and a half years but 15-year-old Max Claes has taken his first National title winning the 1/10 200mm T2 Belgian Championship at the final round at the Charleroi track over the weekend.
Racing in very poor weather conditions, Max took TQ honours for the championship finale with his Serpent 720. Starting from the No.1 spot on the grid a wrong tyre choice meant the up and coming young talent was unable to challenge for his third win of the season but finishing fifth was enough for him to claim his first ever National first title from Renaud Gysemberghs.
Over the championship Max claimed two victories and four podium placings and the new champion is already looking forward for to new challenges next year.
In true champion style Max thanked his dad Alain and Jan de Pooter from RC Car Colours for their support during his successful campaign.

The fourth round of the Venezuelan 1:10 200mm Nationals took place over the weekend and it was Serpent driver Gianni Giorgio who claimed maximum points. Driving his Max Power engined 720, Giorgio was on top form in qualifying breaking the track record with a time of 17.048 and also set a new record for most laps completed over 5 minutes - a run that would secure him the TQ honours.
Unfortunately bad weather forced the finals to be abandoned and so the result was declared on the heats giving Giorgio and Serpent the win. With this victory Giorgio takes the lead of the championship with two rounds remaining.
