Report form a USA marine, David Gunny I am home in recovery from an I.E.D. that detonated in Iran.
I will be brief:
Was at a fwd op base “near ” iran border. I am a marine scout sniper.
Had a few hours off, was relaxing for 2 hours. Even got a few laps on a jerri rigged track for rc cars/trucks. I had the only Serpent, ALL others use Traxxas for some reason.( I won many times in my class )
Anyway, Bases are swept for bombs and mines pre building.Well…one got through somehow. This is VERY rare, but happens.
I was driving my truck not 30 meters from the base. Was my last run before hitting the sack. Was cruzing on the sand at 1/2 speed not 10 feet from me when it happened. I hit an I.E.D. (landmine) that turned my truck into confetti and injured me as well. Explosion was massive. It was designed to take tanks out.
Due to luck..or god..or some marine angel watching over me…I lived with only minor injuries.
Not a bad tradeoff for a truck that was a gift.
I would say the I.E.D. could have gone off at any time. One to MANY could have been killed or badly injured.
Literally that ” toy” saved lifes.
I must say getting to eat some real food and seeing Nicole and the baby is great. Don’t care for the pain pills and antibiotics. Oddly, I can’t wait to go back.
Cash is tight as an E-7. I will get another truck and lithium battery sometime. Might take a year or 2 but I will have it !
May seem funny to people at home. Overseas little things like a radio, or RC car can bring so much relief and joy to so many. Hell, I let hundreds take a ride with my truck. Even forgetting you are in total shit for 10-15 mins can do wonders.
Literally your truck saved my life and perhaps many others.( sorry I destroyed it). Never had one issue till the end.
