German Team Serpent driver Markus Mobers reports on the final of the West German Championship -

Last weekend the last qualifier for the 1:10 Nitro Nationals took place at the all new Düren track. The RMC Düren had built a brand new track, which was a challenge for everybody. The new layout is fantastic and has fast passages as well as technical parts.

In qualifying team Serpent dominated big time. I secured the TQ, closely followed by Frederik Südhoff, Federico Veronesi 4 seconds back and young gun Tobias Hepp another 2 seconds down. It was funny to see all four of us pitting on the same table and taking all direct places for the final. The mix of youth and experience together with good teamwork made the difference.

Former 1:1 scale Formula Renault race winner Keith Dempsey scored his first big rc race win over the weekend when the Team Serpent Ireland won the sixth & final round of the RCCAOI Irish 1:10 200mm National Championships at the St. Annes track in Dublin.

Driving his 720 ‘08, Dempsey took his maiden victory from fellow Serpent driver Chris Lawlor to claim a result which would top off the perfect season for Team Serpent.  By locking out the top two places on the podium the pair ensured Clive Connolly won the 1:10 200mm National title at his first attempt. Having successfully defended his 1:8 National title at the previous round Connolly and Serpent claimed a unique National Championship double while Michael Byrne and Chris Lawlor made it total Serpent domination by winning the respective 1:8 and 1:10 ORCA Championships.

Recently Serpent driver DJ Apolaro took part in the Great Lakes Challemge 2008 as he continued his preparations for the ROAR 1:8 Onroad Nationals.  Racing his Serpent 960 for only the 3rd time DJ enjoyed a great result and sent us this report from the race -

Well at the last minute I decided to attend the annual Great lakes Challenge commonly known as the GLC. I had just built a new Serpent 960 08′ and felt it would be a good event with lots of competition. I have only raced 1/8 scale 2 other times and this would be my third time. I am trying to get ready for the Roar Nationals and need all the stick time I can get. I arrived on Thursday around noon and started with the default set up on the car. I also had the Central and new Zytec body to test with.

The event which was the re-run of Round 2 of the ORCA Championship that had been rained off earlier in the season, saw Lawlor TQ his Serpent 720 for the A Final.  Starting from pole he was able to cruise an easy victory over the Team Magic of Thomas Ward and Kyosho of Oliver Pauloin-Valory to claim win no.2 and the title.

With one round remaining Michael Byrne wrapped up the ORCA Championship in Ireland over the weekend with a faultless drive to his third win of the series at the St.Annes Park track driving his Serpent 960.

Starting from second on the grid, Byrne set the fastest lap of the 20-minute final on his way to a comfortable victory over the Kyosho of Nico Azzariti with young Serpent driver Sean Doyle completing the podium in third with his 960.  The win means Byrne can’t be caught in the points standings.

In the 1:10 200mm A Final it was another success for Serpent with Chris Lawlor taking his 720 to victory having started from pole.  Colm Gaffney made it two Serpent’s on the podium finishing in third.  In the 1:10 championship Serpent driver Robert Boylan tops the standings from Gaffney with one round left to run.

Last weekend the 4th round of the Belgian Championship was held at the track of Roeselare. I came straight from “every day 35°” Spain to “4 seasons in one day” Belgium. The weather forecast wasn’t so good for the weekend with sunshine turning to wind & rain and then sunshine again, so grip was changing every hour.

On Saturday I was curious how my setup from Spain would work on Roeselare … and like I thought, not really. Springs much to hard, and no stability all around.

As I was driving purple all around and front shocks in middle hole I went to all blue springs and moved front shocks in highest hole. After I changed this it started raining and I couldn’t try anything anymore.

After winning the last national about a month ago, I had good hopes for this race.  After 2 years we where back at one of my favorite Dutch tracks, RC Hotwheels in Deventer.

Practice started really good for me, I didn’t practice on this track like others but when I put my S400 on the track it was really good. I had some push on power in the fast corners but besides from that it handled really well.
