Reedy Race of Asia 2003

The Reedy Race of Asia was held this past weekend at the recently renovated
RC Club 2 circuit in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the first Reedy Race of Asia
that was fully supported by Reedy with Mike Reedy himself present to watch
the racing action. Quite a few top touring car drivers were also present, mostly
from Asia of course but also a few from other continents. This race was the
second major international event raced in Thailand this year following on from
the successful Thai International Touring Car event held earlier this year.

The schedule for the race was practice and three rounds of qualifying on Saturday
followed by one round and finals on Sunday. Barry Baker TQ’d and won the race
with his Associated TC3 after winning the first two finals. Barry drove a very
good race and his TC3 was working very well. Kazuo Muramatsu finished the highest
Tamiya in second, following his strong top-ten performance at the recent JMRCA
Japan Championships. Jilles Groskamp was very fast and consistent as usual with
his Xray but was a bit unlucky crashing at the start of the first two a-finals.
In the last one he didn’t and took home the win. World champion Surikarn was
just like Jilles unlucky and crashed at the start of two of the finals making
it very hard to reach a top finish. His new TRF415 worked really well though
and he definitely had a lot of speed.
