Team Associated’s Jared Tebo grabs the “W” in both Mod 4WD and Mod 2WD. His teammate Ryan Cavalieri took the win in Mod Truck.

Tebo’s win in Mod 4WD was impressive! He sat 7th on the grid and says, “my car wasn’t that good in qualifying. I struggled with it, and barely made the main. During the main my B44 was really good.” Tebo picked off fellow racers with ease. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he is the best chaser in all of RC racing! His nickname should be “Jaws” or something. I sure wouldn’t want the patriotic paint scheme to pull up on me.

The Irish on-road nitro racing season got underway on Sunday with Team Serpent Ireland enjoying a positive start to their 2008 campaign as Keith Dempsey TQ’d his 720 ‘08 and was joined on the podium by fellow Serpent driver Colm Gaffney.

The first round of the ORCA Championship was a cold affair but Dempsey made the most of Mega MF power unit and Xceed tyres to claim the top spot in qualifying.

In the final Dempsey, who is only in his second season of r/c competition, continued to show great pace as he battled for the race lead with former National Champion Eoin Doran. Despite setting the fastest lap of the race, the pole sitter was denied the win after an error during his final pit stop but the former 1:1 racer was still happy to open his 2008 season with a podium finish.

Joining him on the podium with a solid drive to take third was Colm Gaffney with his Mega ZX powered 720 who was also running Xceed tyres making it a great start to the year for Team Serpent Ireland.

Serpent also enjoyed a podium finish in the 1:8 A Final as racing returnee Michael Byrne took his 960 to second.

Next race will be on April 6th again at the St. Annes track in the Irish capital city of Dublin.

RB Team driver Jacky Mouton made the perfect start to the opening round of the French National Championships over the weekend securing the TQ position with his Serpent 720 ‘08.

Racing at the Toulouse track with 88 drivers in attendance Mouton was the fastest man in the qualifying heats secured the pole from the Xray of Arnaud Chaussard.

Rain before the final meant a wet track for the big race. Originally set to be a 45-minute encounter this was reduced to 30-minutes account of the poor track conditions which saw 2 drivers opt not to run.

Unfortunately Mouton was not to has a good final crossing the finish line in 6th position just in front of fellow Serpent 720 driver Michaël Derdérian. While a disappointing out come to the weekend, Mouton has shown his 720 ‘08 has the pace and you can be sure that the French ace will bounce back at the second round in April.

Last weekend Francesco Martini won the warm-up of the 1st nationals. This race also was the 1st round of a really popular championship called “4-track.”

Here is Francesco’s report:

I raced in two classes, Sport and Libera (Outlaw). I made the choice to race both classes because then we could check the car set-up and have more time to test. This really helped to set up the car for the Outlaw class which was more difficult for me.

In Sport class the battle was really exciting. I had a tough battle with Italian Champion Romagnoli. (In Sport class the main difference is the body used.) I won the 1st final and Romagnoli won the 2nd final so with the race totally open I decided to change the body and this was a really good decision. My T2 was so easy to drive that I could pass Romagnoli and set the lap record really close to the Outlaw class!

Last Sunday the penultimate round of the DRCMU Winter Championships 07/08 took place in Tinglev, Denmark, which is located near the border to Germany.

Nicolai Nielsen was again the only Serpent driver present at the event with his car and new gear diff attracting plenty of attention.

Racing on the flowing track that had been nicely prepared by the local club in Tinglev, traction was good from the start and increased throughout the weekend allowing for some very fast lap times to be produced in the finals.

The Greek National Championship got underway last weekend and it was current champion John Sotiropoulos that dominated the event at the FRT track with his new Serpent 960 ‘08.

With the Team Microracing shipment of new ‘08 kits arriving the week of the race it was a busy one for the team and in particular for their new drivers. To ensure that all drivers had a good set-up and understanding of the new chassis for the season opener Team Microracing organised a workshop at their HQ on the Friday evening which proved very successful.
