Clutchbells for XB808, manufactured on a precision manual gear machine from HUDY Gear Steel – a material specially formulated and developed for use in gears. Heat treated for highest strength, minimal wear and extra-long lifespan. The XB808 clutchbell features unique oversized ball-bearings designed and engineered by XRAY.

Replacing the standard 5×10 bearings with 1.3mm balls, the oversized 808 clutch bearings are 5×12 with 2.0mm balls and extra-thick bearing walls. This translates to higher load-carrying capabilities which will increase the life of the bearings and reduce the risk of clutch bearing failure during long final runs. The bearings come with special high-temperature resistant grease to ensure proper lubrication during high-revving engine operations and long runs.

Race report by Ricardo Monteiro
After the second race was canceled in Guarda (due to bad weather), the drivers were anxious for a good battle on the track. Saturday afternoon we began our practice with fine weather and good track conditions. Sunday morning we woke up at 7 AM to terrible weather. We began racing the first qualifying round in the hard rain, causing difficulties due to electrical problems. Therefore we had to achieve the best results possible in the next two qualifying rounds to eliminate the first one. The results in the second and third qualifying rounds were 2nd and 4th, with the final position after
qualifying being 4th place overall. TQ was taken by XRAY XB808 driver Nuno Lataes.

Despite engine problems that never stopped during the entire main final, I had to work very hard to get to the top places with smooth, consistent driving. After that, the rain finally stopped and the track began drying and I found the proper conditions to take the car to 1st place. At the end of the race the car was very heavy with mud, but still handled nicely.

Final results:

1. RICARDO MONTEIRO XRAY XB808
2. MIGUEL PIRES
3. NUNO LATAES XRAY XB808 - TQ
4. HÉLIO LOPES
5. RICARDO MARTINS
6. PAULO MARQUES
7. MIGUEL ANGELO
8. RENATO FREITAS
9. PEDRO FIGUEIREDO - XB8EC
10. RICARDO FERREIRA - XB8EC

Round 3 of the Singapore Nitro Challenge was held on May 18, 2008 with a combined turnout of 60 drivers present to battle it out for the national points series. . The track conditions were dry and dusty.

In the buggy qualification, XRAY driver Jack Lim and HB Joe Hwee were quick off the mark and clocked 9 laps in the 7-minute heat. After the first round of qualifying, Joe Hwee sat in provisional pole with Jack Lim trailing by mere milliseconds.

In the second round, Glenn Phuah went on to make a very quick 9 lap run and grabbed the TQ position for the day. Luigi Venturi, Joe, Jack and Chester Chua all made good runs to place themselves in the top 5 grid positions for the A final, of which 3 were XB808 buggies racing for the first time.

The 60-minute A final began with a small pile up at the first corner that allowed TQ Glenn to pull a slight lead in the first few minutes. However, Glenn’s XB808 suffered drivetrain problems that forced him out of this race. Chester Chua managed to squeeze his way to the top of the pack for the lead as Ah M, Venturi, Joe and Jack were in close contention for 2nd and 3rd. Jack was driving at a good pace, but a slight mistake let Ah M overtake for 2nd place. It was Kyosho’s Ben Seet that put in very consistent times that saw him finish 2nd, Ah M in 3rd and Team XRAY’s Chester Chua winning the A final.
