Race report by Basile Concialdi
Friday was the occasion for all pilots and mechanics to meet after a long wintry break. Free practice was to be four 10-minute sessions of two mixed series. However, listening to the opinions of various pilots, many appreciated the method at the French Cup (Thionville) which used a system with a name card… something to think about. The weather on Friday was cloudy with strong winds, which thankfully tended to dry the track. The following pilots showed themselves to be very fast from their first lap: Jacky Mouton, Arnaud Chaussard, Nicolas Bougnoteau, Thomas Desmarie, and Joffrey Defie. These pilots had arrived for practice a few weeks before, which allowed them to adjust their chassis to be competitive right from the beginning.

RRC ran a great race meet, with the largest turnout of the year. The format was 4 x 6 minute sprint rounds, drop 2 then A B and C finals of 30 minutes. The track proved fast and flowing, up a big slope round some trees with a large jump out back. It started off grass but quickly became dirt in the 30 degree day. Haley had a busy day running both classes, and with so much track time he dominated.

The inaugural event for 2008 was held at Singapore’s Turf City on February 24th, with the event being organized by iRacingWerkz (who are also the track owners). The track conditions were very dusty, bumpy and loose, however most were able to come to a compromise on tire and set-up combinations. Team XRAY Singapore turned up with 9 drivers and managed to put 5 into the A-main. Early in the day Glenn Phuah suffered engine problems in his buggy and finally settled in 3rd after the qualifiers behind Sam Cheng in an RB-powered XB8EC. TQ was made by Wenyi in his Hong Nor. Chester Chua and Luigi Venturi did some excellent driving to place themselves in the A-main.

Race report by Adam Clark
Practice
On Friday morning the sky wasn’t looking good, with rain forecast for later on (which I didn’t want to hear when I was about to debut the new car). Te car was built with the asphalt set-up out of the box, running stock brushless 13.5… I was ready to go. When the track was finished being sprayed with sugar water I went out and the car felt great from the get go. I tried a few bodies and took some screws out, changed shock angles, springs and was setting some quick times after only 6 packs. In Modified, team drivers Michael and Tim were also happy with their cars, then the skies opened up and practice was over for the day.

Round 2 of the CML Badlands Challenge was held on December 16th. With four weeks’ of hard grafting by the DRT track crew since the last event (and a dry week prior to the event) the track was is top-notch condition. With re-profiled jumps & rhythm sections the surface was excellent for a dirt track in the middle of winter. It was a good turn by 70 racers, with some top UK racers making qualifying tight.
